Americans do not raise horses for human consumption as some other nations do. However, well over 100,000 American horses are annually transported to Canada and Mexico to be slaughtered for European consumption, where horsemeat is considered a delicacy. Because of the lack of disclosure on the part of slaughterhouse dealers, horses are often acquired and slaughtered through fraud and misrepresentation. Slaughter also provides a quick and evidence-free outlet for stolen horses. These animals are often subjected to extremely cruel transport and euthanasia conditions. In the past 20 years, more than 3 million American horses have met their fate this way.

- I oppose reforming current horse slaughter policy and wish to donate resources to the campaign committee of Leader Charles Schumer (NY).
- I support banning the export of American horses to slaughterhouses and making it illegal to possess, ship, transport, purchase, sell, deliver, or receive, in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce, any horse, horse carcass or part of a carcass with the intent that it is to be slaughtered for human consumption, and wish to donate resources to the campaign committee of Sen. Ben Cardin (MD) and/or to an advocate group currently working with this issue.

If elected as a trustee, the campaign committee of Sen. Ben Cardin (MD) will be unconditionally awarded the funds pledged to this issue along with a letter requesting him to favorably consider reintroducing S.2732 - John Stringer Rainey SAFE Act (117th Congress 2021-2022), or a similar version thereof.
- Equine Advocates
If elected as a trustee, Equine Advocates will be awarded the funds pledged to this issue along with a letter requesting these funds be used advocate for prohibiting the sale, possession and trade of horseflesh for human consumption.
The mission of Equine Advocates is to rescue, protect and prevent the abuse of horses through education, investigation, rescue operations, the dissemination of information to the public and the operator of a horse sanctuary for slaughter-bound, abused and neglected horses. Since our inception in 1996, the rescue of equines from slaughter, abuse, and neglect has been one of the primary missions of Equine Advocates. Over the years we have helped thousands of horses in distress. We have often handled rescue operations that involved saving multiple equines at once.
